Verb
1) В английском языке существует два основных средства описания событий, действий и состояний, имеющих место в настоящем — время Present simple и время Present continuous. Сопоставление этих способов см. в Present simple and Present continuous
2) Если про некоторую ситуацию, начавшуюся в прошлом и имеющую место в настоящем, сообщается, как долго она имеет место, используются времена Present perfect и Present perfect continuous.

I've known him since 1964 — Я знаю его с 1964-ого года.

He's been learning English for two years — Он учит английский уже два года.
